Diet – A healthy diet keeps all illnesses away! But do we abide by this? Our daily meals must be highly fortified with all essential vitamins, minerals and trace elements. These do sound to be required in small amounts but they perform important functions including that of maintaining the bone health. Calcium, Vitamin D, Vitamin K etc all in balanced quantities are necessary to keep the bone healthy.Exercise – Healthy intake is not the only thing one can depend upon but a healthy workout is also essential. It should be mandatory to keep a time schedule for an exercise or at least a brisk walk or a jog.

There are two kinds of treatment modes available, the conventional and the alternative.

Bone enrichment with diet – replenishing the body with the most essential factor for bones i.e. Calcium, is a commonly followed treatment option. Other than Calcium, Vitamin D and a few other trace elements are supplemented.Regular exercise – medical practitioners suggest the necessary exercises depending upon the bone affected. This is to keep the movement of the bone on. Weight bearing exercises are recommended to improve the bone strength.‘Ayurveda’, an ancient Indian treasure of alternative medicines have been known to work wonders on Osteoporosis. Ayurveda basically treats a patient with hercal mixtures and some organic foods, to get rid of the toxins that disturb the health equilibrium. Certain herbs like Country mallow (Sida cordifolia), Terminalia arjuna, Commiphora wightii, winter cherry (Withania somnifera) etc in their recommended doses have done miracles to the bone, causing its rejuvenation.China has also been a popular land of alternative medicines. The treatment mode not only includes intake of medicines but also certain exercises, oil massages which keep Osteoporosis in control not to worsen the condition of the bone.Phytoestrogens (extracted from plant sources) have an action that is similar to that of the hormone, estrogen. These have been supplemented to patients for treatment of Osteoporosis but still are under study.

It is wise not to experiment with medicines without proper knowledge. Osteoporosis is not life threatening but can make one handicap for lifetime.
